Mad Hatter 3D Pumpkin Carving!

Here is my latest creation – 2 whole feet of Mad Hatter pumpkin! And yes, you read that correctly – he is 24 inches tall.

Here is the same pumpkin under different lighting.

I had the vision of this pumpkin in my head for a couple of days, and on the 2nd day I just had to bring my vision to fruition – the excitement was just gnawing away at me. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to pull it off being that this design was a bit overly ambitious. But hey, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, “I LOVE a challenge!” (artistically speaking…:-))

This pumpkin took me 10 hours of sculpting straight through the night. Sculpted pumpkins wait for no one, so I was on a time crunch and had to finish before he started to dry out.

Here is a slight closeup of the face:

As of right now he is hanging out in the garden out front.  For all I know he has teamed up with a pumpkin rabbit and a pumpkin mouse and is having a tea party in our yard when I am not looking… (sorry – lack of sleep and a vivid imagination can really make a person a bit….mad?….;-))

Anyhow, This is my absolute favorite pumpkin I have carved thus far, and I think I will be carving a couple more before pumpkin season comes to a close. I hope everyone is enjoying my pumpkin carvings and I hope you are all inspired to go out there and carve your own!

If you want to carve your own this year but don’t know where to start, please scroll down a bit to read my post on pumpkin carving resources – it is the post right before this one.  And you can also read my post on pumpkin sculpting tools here. There is still plenty of time!

Happy Halloween and Happy Carving!

You need to enter the pumpkin carving contest on the OSU website.

  2. Haha! Thanks. I looked it up and I would if it wasn’t held on their campus. And I’m not sure I would be able to carve anything good in an hour. But if I can submit any photos via e-mail, then I’m all in! =) I have been looking for local pumpkin carving contests, but no luck so far in finding any.

Do you have any Universities or colleges near you? They usually have some type of contests going on.
Our football team has been performing VERY well lately, so I’m guessing there will be alot of Beaverkins sprouting around campus for this contest.

I wish I had a pinky of your talent. I have a had time carving an apple.
    Love ya!
