I sculpt pumpkins for fun a few times a year – and I love it. To see my 3D pumpkin carvings, click here )

Now I don’t know if you are all familiar with professional pumpkin carver, Ray Villafane, but if not, you should be! 🙂 There is a reason they call him the Michelangelo of pumpkin carving! Anyhow, he offers some great resources to help you be the best 3D pumpkin carver you can be! Once you carve one, you’ll want to carve more – they’re addicting!  😉

And for a little inspiration (or for a cool Halloween conversation piece) here is Ray Villafane’s book filled with his amazing carved pumpkins:

Ray Villafane’s “Pumpkins” (Paperback Book):

Another book I use quite often is, “Facial Expressions” – I think it literally has every single facial expression you can think of. It is great resource to use when you are carving 3D pumpkins. I got mine off of Amazon.com, and here is the link to the exact one I ordered, or you can click below.

And here I show you how to pick out the perfect pumpkin for 3D pumpkin carving:

And if you haven’t already, you can also read my post on 3D Pumpkin Carving Tools here. And you can also read my post on how long 3D pumpkin carvings last here.

I can’t say enough about how much fun 3D pumpkin carving is! If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it! I know the natural instinct for some is to say, “Oh, I could never do anything like that,” or “all I can carve are two triangles for eyes and a smile missing two squares for teeth.” (heard that one the other day at my art show 🙂 )  But you never know until you try – you may be surprised to find out you have a new talent. And at the very least – have fun with it and get messy! It’s Halloween!

Happy Carving!
